Hip hop artists, record labels are leading an assault on human dignity

The freedom with which rappers throw around certain words that we can’t reproduce here in their songs has often been topic for a heated debate, and Fox News is pointing out that the conversation should not stop now.

If anything, 50 years after Dr. Martin Luther King’s March on Washington, we should be paying attention to the lyrics of rap songs even more because they are nothing short of an “assault on human dignity.”

Fox News got Jehmu Greene, a contributor, and Ken Blackwell, a senior fellow at the American Civil Rights Union, to talk a bit on the topic.

The conversation also touches upon an essay written by Fox News political analyst Juan Williams and published in the WSJ on how black music no longer carries an uplifting message because profit and shock value are all that matter in today’s industry.

Greene points out that even President Obama feels the need to censor the words of his favorite rapper, Jay Z.

“When the president likes to quote Jay Z, he will give the edited lyrics. It’s just despicable, it’s outrageous, it’s filled with misogyny and hateful lyrics about women,” she says.

Blackwell agrees. Do you?
