In January this year, Fox bosses confirmed talks with “X-Files” series creator and executive producer Chris Carter, in view of bringing the iconic TV series back for another round. All talks are now over, having had the result fans were hoping for: “The X-Files” is coming back to the small screen. It’s official.

For the time being, Fox and Carter, who will also return, together with leading stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, would only commit to a 6-episode event, Deadline confirms.

Production for the new episodes is set to begin this summer, but an air date is yet to be announced. However, it would probably not be too far-fetched to hope for a fall premiere, considering the limited number of episodes.

A synopsis for the “event” is not known yet, but fans will probably settle for now with knowing that Special FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are coming back, and that they will finally be getting some sort of closure after all these years.

Another piece of excellent news is that Carter promises the ride will have been worth the wait: just think of the long hiatus between the final episode of the series and the new one as a “13-year commercial break.” Clearly, he too wants to forget about the disappointing feature films, very much like the fans.

“The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories,” Carter adds. So buckle up!
