The accident took place in Simi Valley, California

28 people were injured in an unintentional firework detonation yesterday, July 4 in California.

As you can see, fireworks exploded on the ground Simi Valley, 35 miles (56 km) from Los Angeles, sending people scattering.

Commander Stephanie Shannon with the Simi Valley police mentions that four people have been seriously injured and are now hospitalized.

According to ABC News, Rancho Santa Susana Community Park was evacuated after the 9:30 p.m. blast.

"Everybody started screaming and everything that was supposed to happen didn't happen. It was pretty frightening. And a block of wood … came shooting down into the side of my leg," a witness describes.
