Intel has already detailed the new Itanium server chips, but it also has the E6-2600 series of Xeon units in store, their estimated time of arrival having now been discovered.

Recent reports about Intel have revealed delays, updates on chip series believed to be dying and even quad-core Core i7 inbound models, among other things.

Meanwhile, no actual newcomers have been sent out, thought his applies to not just Intel, but also most, if not all other chip makers out there.

Intel is again making the news, and though it still has not launched a new chip, prospective customers can at least get an idea of when something of the sort will happen on the server front.

According to this particular report, there are new Xeon series products on their way, a very sizable family in fact.

Going by the name of Xeon E5-2600, they are built on the 32nm manufacturing process technology and will have two, four, six or eight cores.

More specifically, there are five six-core chips (Xeon E5-2620, E5-2630, E5-2630L, E5-2640 and E5-2667), with 2. to 2.9 GHz clocks, as well as eight 8-core ones, with 1.8 GHz to 3.1 GHz speeds. Meanwhile, quad-core Xeon E5 units (considered low-end) run at 1.8 GHz to 2.4 GHz.

In the following order, the quad-core, six-core and eight-core Intel server units have 10 MB, 15 MB and 20 MB or L3 cache, respectively, plus thermal design powers of 80W, 95W (or 60W) and 95W-150W, respectively.

Finally, there is even a dual-core CPU, the so-called Xeon E5-2637, with a clock of 3 GHz, 5 MB L3 cache memory and an 80W TDP.

Consumers need only go here to look at the full list of CPUs, complete with memory support, number of threads, etc.

What remains is to see during which month of the final 2011 quarter (October, November or December) these server chips reach availability.
