14 DAY TRIAL // Several months ago, Foursquare revealed a brand new application for its mobile users, namely Swarm, which has been designed to provide users with check-in capabilities and which has arrived on Windows Phone devices this week.
A few weeks back, the company announced that all the check-in capabilities of their service had been transferred to Swarm and that the main Foursquare app would provide only search and recommendation functionality.
This has already happened to the app on other mobile operating systems out there and is bound to happen on Windows Phone 8.1 devices as well in the not too distant future, especially with Swarm now available for this platform as well.
“Swarm, the new app from Foursquare, is the fastest way to keep up and meet up with your friends. With Swarm, you can easily see who’s out nearby and who wants to hang out later,” the application’s description reads.
With Swarm on their smartphones, users will be able to see which of their friends are nearby, while also having the option to easily share what there are doing. Moreover, they will also be able to message all of their friends nearby to invite them to hang out.
At the moment, Swarm is available for download on Windows Phone 8.1 handsets as version 1.0.0.5, with the latest iteration bringing along a series of fixes for issues in some languages that prevented users from checking in.
In the coming months, Foursquare for Windows Phone will receive an update that will provide users with an enhanced discovery experience, Brandon LeBlanc notes in a recent post on Microsoft’s official blog.
“Having been able to try out Swarm myself over the last few weeks on my Windows Phone device, I think there are a couple of things people will enjoy about it. First off – right when you open the Swarm app you can see all your friends nearby. I love this,” he notes.
Thus, the application makes it really easy to find friends to meet up with, he explains. Moreover, users will find that checking in is easier and faster than ever.
At the same time, the mobile client enables users to easily tag and check in your friends when you are checking in at a location, so that everyone would know who you are out with.
The new Swarm application is available for download from the Windows Phone Store today, with support for all devices running under the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system. The application can be grabbed for free.
