14 DAY TRIAL // A new flavor of foursquare for Android application is now available for download via the Android Market, with various new enhancements included into the mix, such as a new notification tray.
With the newly added notification tray, owners of handsets running under Google's Android operating system will be able to stay on top of what their friends are doing and on other things of interest much easier than before.
The same notification system is available for those who access foursquare.com, and was designed to keep users updated at all times on all that is happening.
According to the development team behind the application, the new notification tray will keep users posted when:
- a friend comments on one of your check-ins; - there are new comments or photos on a check-in you’ve commented on; - your friend does one of the Tips you’ve left; - you and a friend both have the same place on your To-Do List; - a place you’re at starts swarming; - one of your Facebook friends joins foursquare; and, - you’re ousted as Mayor (boo!).
However, this is not the only noticeable thing when it comes to the new flavor of foursquare for Android, the team continues, explaining that users will also enjoy increased control over their notifications.
“On your Android phone, just go to your settings and you can flip on and off any one you want, and the same is true of settings on the web. We’re also introducing a new mute button, so you can turn off notifications for an hour, or until the next morning,” the development team notes.
Users will also benefit from a redesigned settings page, with support for a wider range of features that are already found in the foursquare.com website.
At the same time, the mobile software does not come with the option to clear the search history from the settings menu.
The new notification tray should soon become available for the owners of iPhones and BlackBerry devices as well in the near future but, for the time being, they can enjoy the feature only when accessing foursquare.com on their devices.
The new foursquare for Android is available for download from the Android Market here. It can be installed on all devices running under Android 1.6 and newer OS flavors.
