Yesterday, Foursquare made a major change in its mobile strategy, as all check-ins were transferred to its Swarm application (officially announced a couple of months ago), and it appears that Windows Phone users will also get a taste of the change soon.

Basically, all Foursquare users who still want to check-in at various locations using the company’s service will need to install the new mobile application on their devices in order to still be able to do so.

The Foursquare application will continue to exist, and it will also work nicely on mobile devices alongside the new mobile client, but it will not be offering all of the features that users have been enjoying inside it until now.

However, only Android and iOS users can actually do so, since the Swarm application is available only on their platforms as of now.

However, it appears that a Windows Phone version of the new software will also be released, only that it still needs a few more weeks until it is finalized.

“Since we’ve announced the launch of Swarm, we’ve heard from a ton of Windows Phone fans about how excited you are to see the app come to a live tile near you. It’s almost ready for you, so we wanted to share a preview of what’s to come,” the company notes in a recent blog post.

“Until Swarm is out, you’ll be able to check in on Foursquare for Windows Phone. We’re putting on the finishing touches and will have it for you as soon as possible (in the next few weeks), so stay tuned!”

Once Swarm is available on Microsoft’s mobile OS, all check-ins will be moved to it. According to the company, this also means that all past check-ins of a user, along with all of their friends and photos, will be automatically moved to the new application as well.

When that happens, owners of Windows Phone devices will be able to use the Foursquare application to receive a personalized local search, the company claims.

The Foursquare and Swarm applications have been designed to work seamlessly together, so as to provide users with the best possible experience. Owners of Android and iOS devices should be already experiencing their new features.

Foursquare is planning on providing mobile users with a personalized experience on their devices at all time. Thus, users will have to “teach” the app some things about them, and then the new features and capabilities included inside it will start showing.

We assume that the Swarm application will arrive on Windows Phone devices alongside a new flavor of Foursquare, so as to ensure that the aforementioned enhancements will indeed be delivered to its users. Stay tuned for more on this.
