Foursquare just hit 10 million users, a major milestone for the check-in service. Granted, these are registered users, but it shows that it's still growing and attracting new users, even as the hype around check-in services has died down.

To showcase some of the milestones reached by Foursquare along the way, the company put together an infographic describing its progress so far and some of the more interesting current numbers.

"The foursquare community has over 10,000,000 members! And, to commemorate this pretty crazy occasion, we put together a little infographic," Foursquare announced.

"Be sure to click through to see it bigger; if you’re anything like us, watching the full-size animated map puts butterflies in your tummy. Thank you so much for supporting us!," it added.

The company added 700,000 new users in the last month or so, indicating that growth is still strong. And activity is rather strong as well, there are about three million check-ins each day and the total is getting close to 750 million.

There are some fun numbers in the infographic as well, for example US users have checked in 169 countries already, so some of them clearly like to travel a lot.

There have also been 1,105 check-ins in Beer Halls in Germany and 6,230 check-ins in Sake Bars in Japan. There's a more serious side as well, there have been 804 park weddings to check into and 1,061 new-born babies were announced with hospital check-ins.

Foursquare is working on becoming an actual business and, though it's still got some work to do, it's already gotten about 400,000 companies directly involved with managing their Foursquare profiles.

The real problem is converting all of these check-ins and all of the activity into money, something that many social and local web startups are struggling to do.
