
According to U.S. military spokespeople, the four
were victims of a tragic accident, they didn't die because of some diabolical terrorist plot or insurgent revolt. The event occurred on Thursday near Karma in Al Anbar Province, west of Baghdad.
In a press release, it has been reported that the four Marines were part of Regimental Combat Team 5 and they were traveling in a M1A1 Main Battle tank, when their vehicle skidded off a bridge and fell into a canal.
The U.S. death toll in Iraq has now risen to 2.434 soldiers.
It seems Thursday was a black day for the U.S. army, since three other U.S. soldiers died as a cause of roadside bombs in the southwestern part of Baghdad.
The American military officials stated that the incidents that led to their death were separate. Two of the soldiers died in the morning when their army vehicle was hit by a bomb while they were performing a surveillance mission, while a third had been killed earlier, also while on patrol.
An American soldier deployed with the Task Force Band of Brothers died on Tuesday near the city of Mosul but his death was not due to war-inflicted wounds, the military forces declared. His death has become the subject of a going investigation.
