Late last month, we reported that
ASUSTek was planning to release a number of new Eee PC models to extend its already vast netbook offer. After the rumors were confirmed by the company's CEO,
Jerry Shen, and after seeing some of the
new models being showcased, the Taiwanese manufacturer has rolled out a number of new Eee PC models. Interestingly enough, none of the just released Eee PCs was showcased in the leaked slide we initially talked about.
Obviously, ASUS decided to keep the new models for the Taiwanese market alone, where they were introduced earlier today. There are four Eee PCs, dubbed Eee PC 1000HD XP, Eee PC 904HD XP, Eee PC 901XP, and Eee PC 900XP. Naturally, given their names, you might be inclined to believe that the newcomers will be bundled with a Windows XP operating system - and your assumption is correct.
Furthermore, both the Eee PC 1000HD XP and the Eee PC 904HD will boast an 80GB hard drive, instead of an SSD. The other two models, Eee PC 901XP and Eee PC 900XP, will be equipped with a 12GB and 16GB SSD, respectively. The Eee PC 900XP will feature a 4-cell battery, while all the other three models will have a 6-cell one. The battery configuration will also take its toll on the netbook's weight, thus making the Eee PC 900XP the lightest of the four models, at only 990g, while the 10-inch model will weigh in at 1.45kg.
One of the most interesting things about the release of the new Eee PCs is that, out of all the four models, only the Eee PC 901XP will be powered by an Intel Atom processor, while the other three have been listed with an Intel Mobile for their processors. It is yet uncertain whether the new models will be powered by a Celeron CPU or by one of the upcoming Atom processors.
Price-wise, the newcomers will be sold at around $542 for the 1000HD XP model, $479 for the 904HD XP, $542 for the 901XP, and $447 for the 900XP. As mentioned above, we are yet to learn if ASUS plans to release the new models in the US and Europe as well.
