A guilty verdict ends the trial of four men involved in the rape and killing of a woman in India

The four suspects in the deadly gang rape in New Delhi, India last December have all been found guilty, reports say.

The group accosted a 23-year-old student, killing the woman after abusing her repeatedly and severely injuring her male companion.

Both were beaten with a metal rod and the female victim had her intestines ripped out of her in one of the most violent crimes to make the news in India so far.

According to The Guardian, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh Singh have been found guilty of gang rape, unnatural offenses and tampering with evidence. The verdict was given out by Judge Yogesh Khanna in Saket district court.

The men will be sentenced on Wednesday and, if they are granted the death penalty, they will be hanged.
