Coastguard officers, firefighters, and lifeboat crews joined their forces to rescue four people and a dog who become stuck in sinking sand in North Kent.

Metro tells us that the emergency crews responded to two separate callouts between Herne Bay and Reculver around midday on Sunday.

In one case, coastguard officers rescued two day trippers who were stuck up to their thighs on the beach.

Around 90 minutes later, two women became trapped in mud up to their waists after a landslide and were unable to move. They called the Herne Bay coastguard, but after assessing the gravity of the situation the officers called firefighters who eventually rescued them.

It seems that the women were trying to rescue their dog, who was also stuck in mud. It's not unusual for animals to fall into quicksand, but authorities recommend people no to attempt to rescue their pets if they are faced with this scenario.

All four people were checked over by ambulance staff, but no injuries from the incidents were reported.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is advising the public to be very careful in coastal areas after the two incidents. They say that the ground is still soft in tidal areas due to the recent wet weather.
