Dan Greenawalt, the creative director at Turn 10, says that the upcoming Forza Motorsport 5 is designed to be more than just a launch title that shows off the power of the new Xbox One, because his team wants players to enjoy a truly innovative experience.

The developer tells The Official Xbox Magazine that, “Racing games are great for the launch of a console. You don’t have chainsaws, knives and blood and guts and all that, so you can put them on a Happy Meal at McDonalds and promote the product. And on top of it they usually have great graphics engines.”

Forza Motorsport 5 was one of the first titles that Microsoft revealed for the Xbox One and demos for the new console at both E3 and Gamescom used the racing sim.

Greenawalt adds, “Racing gamers demand innovation across all of the different fronts, and usually the racing games at launch are fantastic, but they’re a bit narrower in scope. It allows them to be very laser-focused on just hitting that date, and being a graphics showcase. This is a Forza Motorsport. This is big.”

Turn 10 has created a new engine for the racing title, designed to use all the extra power offered by the new Microsoft device.

The team wants all cities and tracks to be carefully simulated, with detail that can help a player choose the best way to tackle corners and acceleration zones.

At the same time, the developers are trying to create a more challenging Artificial Intelligence by harnessing the power of the cloud.

As players spend more time with Forza Motorsport 5, they will see the computer learn from their actions in order to perform better.

The Xbox One and the racing game will be available on 13 major markets on November 22, with the rest of the world getting them in 2014.
