Microsoft has announced that its Forza Motorsport 3 racing title has managed to rack up more than 1 million units in sales. It was exclusively released on the Xbox 360 home gaming console from Microsoft on October 27 and already performed well in the NPD Group numbers for that month, although it was placed behind Uncharted 2, the action adventure title from Naughty Dog and Sony, which took first place.

The publisher is saying that more than 6.6 million hours have been logged into online play and that over 64 million matches were played.

Close to 600 million miles were raced in Forza Motorsport 3 cars until now. The game offers players the ability to select from 400 cars and 100 tracks to create a completely customizable racing experience.

Fans of Forza Motorsport 3 can now also pick up the Hot Holidays Car Pack if they are willing to pay 400 Microsoft Points (the equivalent of 5 dollars) on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The cars that are part of the new DLC are: the 2010 Ferrari 599XX; the 2010 Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss; the 2010 Lamborghini LP6700-4 SV; the 2010 Porsche Panamera Turbo; the 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia; the 2010 Jaguar XFR; the 2010 Audi S4; the 2009 Aston Martin #007 AMR Lola; the 2009 Audi 2 Sport Team Joest R15 TDI and the 2010 Nissan GT-R Spec V.

Forza Motorsport 3 was supposed to go up against another platform exclusive racing title, Gran Turismo 5 from Polyphony Digital and Sony. The game, which is rumored to have cost more than 60 million dollars to develop, is now slated to be released in the first half of 2009 and players in North America and in Europe will be able to get a taste of the title on December 17 when a time trial demo on a single track is outed on the PlayStation Network.
