A few days ago, staff at Fort Worth Zoo in Texas went gone public with the news that this animal sanctuary had become home to a jaguar cub.

The cub was born to 4-year-old Xochi on July 16. It is a female, and it weighed merely two pounds (about 1 kilogram) at delivery. Since then, it has been steadily growing puffier, and it now tips the scale at 13.75 pounds (6.23 kilograms).

The cub is still nursing and will continue to do so for about 6 more moths. However, keepers expect that, in the weeks to come, they will be able to introduce some meat in its diet.

Zoo Borns tells us that the jaguar cub spent its first few weeks of life away from the public eye. It was only recently moved to the zoo's Texas Wild! together with its mother, and appears to enjoy exploring its new home.
