Former White House Cyber Security Coordinator Howard A. Schmidt has joined the board of directors of N-Dimension Solutions Inc., a company that specializes in protecting critical infrastructure systems.

Before working at the White House, Schmidt was chief security strategist for the US CERT Partners Program for the National Cyber Security Division, Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

During the Bush administration, the expert acted as the chair of the President’s Critical Infrastructure Protection Board.

“Critical infrastructure assets such as electric utility sub-stations and pipelines have become more interconnected with utility information systems and as a result more vulnerable to cyber-attacks,” Schmidt said.

“N-Dimension is one of the few companies to provide an authentic, affordable defense-in-depth solution down to the asset level. They are meeting a critical need and I am proud to serve on their board.”

Doug Westlund, N-Dimension’s CEO, commented, “In the past critical industry assets were isolated from cyber threats and were not a target, but increasing interconnectivity and more sophisticated attacks on critical infrastructure have changed all that.”

He added, “Howard was among the first to recognize the vulnerability of these assets and understand the need to design products and services that feature both Operational Technology (OT) and Informational Technology (IT) to secure systems down to the asset level.”
