Steve Ballmer, the former Microsoft CEO who was replaced at the helm of the tech giant by Satya Nadella in February this year, has completed the purchase of the Los Angeles Clippers, an NBA team previously owned by Donald Sterling.

Ballmer agreed to pay no less than $2 billion (€1.5 billion) for the team, after a California judge ruled that Sterling’s wife, Shelly, had the right to sell the team.

Ballmer was obviously delighted with the agreement, saying in a statement that everyone needed to contribute to a better performance of the team, starting with players, coaches, and the staff.

“Clipper fans are so amazing. They have remained fiercely loyal to our franchise through some extraordinary times. I will be hard core in giving the team, our great coach, staff and players the support they need to do their best work on the court,” Steve Ballmer said.

According to Forbes statistics, Steve Ballmer previously had a net worth of $21.3 billion and is currently the number one individual Microsoft shareholder, as Bill Gates continues to sell stock on a regular basis.

Ballmer was Microsoft CEO for 13 years and was often criticized for some of the products launched by the company in the last decade, including Windows Vista, Windows 8, and Surface tablets.
