23-year-old Christopher J. Wright, a former student of the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for access device fraud and aggravated identity theft.

According to Tallahassee.com, Wright and two students of the same university hacked into the institution’s computer systems and into the financial aid accounts of other students.

Once they had access to the accounts, the fraudsters changed bank account and routing numbers so that financial aid refunds were transferred to their own pre-paid credit cards.

The three hacked into the accounts by using information collected from discarded paperwork, and phishing attacks launched against students and employees.

The other fraudsters, Carliss Pereira and Carl Coutard, pleaded guilty to their crimes earlier this year. They both got lighter sentences than Wright.
