Entrust, Inc., a provider of identity-based security solutions, has announced appointing Jon Callas, a former Apple employee, as the company’s Chief Technology Officer. Callas brings 30 years of experience to his new position with Entrust.

Callas is touted as one of the most respected and well-known names in the mobile security industry.

At Entrust, he will be responsible for shaping the direction of new technology and innovation, as the company continues to develop solutions for mobile, as well as logical and physical security, said Entrust.

He will be reporting directly to Bill Conner, the company’s President and CEO.

"I am very pleased that Jon Callas will be joining Entrust's senior leadership team," said Conner.

"Jon's deep understanding of mobile security, coupled with his recognized expertise in growing and leading software businesses make him a natural complement to our organization."

"As technologists, our most important commitment is to our customers – the real people who use and interact with our products every day," said Callas.

"I know that Entrust is committed to not only creating security solutions that address real world challenges, but also designing products that are versatile and easy-to-use,” Callas added.

“I'm looking forward to being a part of Entrust's continued growth and success."

Callas is the co-founder of PGP Corporation, a company that specialized in email and data encryption software.

He held leadership functions including CTO and CSO spanning 15 years. His most recent employer, Apple Inc., trusted the man with operating system security.

Whether or not his departure has anything to do with the growing Mac and iOS threats, Callas is also known to have held leadership positions with corporations including Wave Systems Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation and Counterpane Internet Security Inc.

Finally, Callas is credited for several Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards including OpenPGP, DKIM, and ZRTP, which he authored.
