Remember the Vivo X5 Max smartphone? Back in December when it was announced, the handset was crowned as the world’s thinnest smartphone coming at 4.77 mm / 0.18 inches. The X5 Max took the title from the Oppo R5 which boasts a 4.85 mm / 0.19 inches frame.

Well, in the world of tech, a device doesn't hold a title for long, as demonstrated by the following story.

Just a month after the Vivo X5 Max was introduced to the public, its position as the world’s slimmest smartphone is already threatened.

World's next thinnest phone comes from Ivvi

According to Gizmo China, one of Coolpad’s branches called Ivvi is prepping a smartphone with a frame that’s even thinner than the Vivo X5 Max.

Coolpad is a relatively unknown Chinese smartphone producer that surprisingly managed to make it into TrendForce’s 2015 smartphone shipment top, making an entry at number 8 with 4% marketshare. That’s pretty impressive for a company not many have heard about.

Going back to the even lesser known Ivvi, the subsidiary seemingly has a 4.7mm / 0.18 inches thin smartphone in the pipeline, which will undercut the Vivo X5 Max with 0.7 units. It’s not a huge difference but enough for Ivvi’s product to gain the title of world’s slimmest smartphone.

For the time being, we don’t even know what the handset will be named, so you won’t find any information in this article related to the phone’s specifications.

A 4.7-inch smartphone with a 4.7-inch frame, how about that?

The only thing we can share with you is that we’re dealing with 4.7-inch handset with 4.7-inch mm / 0.18 inches frame. Oh, yes, and the gizmo will be offered in white.

The Vivo X5 Max offers some pretty nifty specs. For example, customers will get a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display maintained alive by an octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.7GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

Will Ivvi follow suit and employ the services of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, too? We will just have to wait and see.
