Microsoft puts things straight in the Windows 8 GUI saga

Ever since Microsoft rolled out the first preview version of its new operating system, people were still wondering how you actually call the new GUI available in Windows 8.

First, it was baptized Metro, but Microsoft quickly stepped in front of the media saying that this was only an internal codename for the new user interface, so the final product doesn’t adopt the same designation.

This time however Microsoft claims that Windows 8 actually comes with a “new Windows user interface” or simply “Windows user interface,” according to a TechCrunch report quoting a company spokesperson.

When it comes to the apps available in the Start Screen, they’re not Metro Apps or Modern Apps, they’re simply “Windows apps” or, if you prefer, “Windows 8 apps.”
