Foresight Linux 2.0 has been released, bringing you the latest GNOME 2.22. Foresight Linux is an rPath-based distribution with a lot of apps that make your computing experience much easier.

Foresight Linux 2.0 sports a brand-new tar-based installer, which will drastically reduce the install time. Although Foresight was well known for its GNOME edition, the developers will soon create two more releases, based on KDE and XFCE.

GRUB gave up its place in favor of Syslinux, a lightweight bootloader
that aims to simplify everything about booting. PackageKit has become the default package manager, by replacing Foresight System Manager. It is set up to check for updates once a day, and prompts the user to install them by clicking on the PackageKit icon from the panel.

GNOME-Do, an application that allows you to find anything on your computer like applications, files, songs, bookmarks, Pidgin buddies, and much more, is included in Foresight Linux 2.0.

Here is a list with the most important changes available in Foresight Linux 2.0:

■ PackageKit has been updated to 0.1.9 released 3/5/08. This PackageKit update includes bug fixes as well as an improved systems update interface.
■ GNOME has been updated to 2.22.0
■ The new GNOME clock applet includes the ability to add weather and timezones.
■ Flash is fixed and included in the default 32-bit installation
■ GNOME-DO is included in the default installation and started in a user's session. To bring up GNOME-DO press Super spacebar. (Super is also known as the Windows button on most keyboards). This can be remapped by using Gconf.
■ GNOME-DO has been updated to the latest release (bzr 113) and includes the new background theming. Users will need to install plugins manually.
■ Proprietary codecs have been removed. Users will be prompted to install them automatically the first time they try to use them.
■ Transmission, a Bittorrent client, has been added to the default installation and has been updated to the latest release, 1.06. (FL-856)
