Though solid state drives are already many times faster than hard drives even on the SATA 3.0 Gbps connection, makers of SSDs, such as Foremay, are already looking to the future, he company having just announced the EC188 M-series, powered by SATA 6.0 Gbps.

So far, it can be said that whatever SSDs were released for the consumer market have already proven quite formidable, even though they do use the same interface as HDDs.

In fact, the more powerful models can actually reach transfers of around 285 MB/s, which is no small feat for any storage unit.

This has let them grow in popularity by a fair deal, even though they do have significantly higher price points than platter-based solutions.

Foremay, however, did not exactly address the consumer market when it created the EX188, designing it, instead, for the enterprise sector.

This market can, in fact, prove more lucrative for storage solutions that would be considered too expensive on the consumer front.

As such, it went ahead and, despite the costs associated with it, gave it a storage capacity of up o 500 GB and compatibility with the SATA 6.0 Gbps interface.

Basically, the newcomer can read at 450 MB/s and write at 350 MB/s. They should soon start showing up in servers, studio workstations and high-end DIY personal computers.

"The mainstream motherboards delivered to the market today have significantly increased their support of the SATA 3 hard drive," said Jason Hoover, Foremay's VP Marketing.

"Our SATA 3.0 SSD is designed to meet the demand for fully utilizing the advantages of SATA 3.0 speed in SATA 3-ready motherboards. Users will now be able to enjoy the ultra-high speed provided by our SATA 6 Gb/s SSDs."

Foremay has already begun to ship its latest creations, though only small quantities are, for now, available. No sort of pricing details were offered.
