Customers leveraging Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 can now download the second upgrade for this secure web gateway solution.

Service Pack 2 for Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 was provided at approximately 16 months after the first service pack, which shipped in June 2010.

Just as its predecessor, Forefront TMG 2010 SP2 is available for download free of charge. Customers looking to upgrade need to head over to the Microsoft Download Center and grab the service pack for both the Forefront TMG 2010 Standard and Enterprise editions.

According to the software giant, the latest update to Threat Management Gateway 2010 is designed to introduced both new features and functionality, as well as a number of improvements compared to the last upgrade.

The Redmond company highlighted a list with the most important changes available in Forefront TMG 2010 SP2:

“New Reports - The new Site Activity report displays a report showing the data transfer between users and specific websites for any user.

Error Pages - A new look and feel has been created for error pages; and error pages can be more easily customized and can include embedded objects.

Kerberos Authentication - You can now use Kerberos authentication when you deploy an array using network load balancing (NLB).”

Since downloads of Forefront TMG 2010 SP2 have just went live on the Download Center, customers need to exercise their patience a little longer for additional information and details.

For example, Microsoft has yet to publish the Release Notes for Forefront TMG 2010 SP2, but I’m sure that this will change in the next few days.

Customers will need to be running Forefront TMG 2010 Standard Edition SP1 with Update 1 or Forefront TMG 2010 Enterprise Edition SP1 with Update 1 in order to be upgrade to Service Pack 2, Microsoft informed.
