Forefront Security for Office Communications Server RTM

Microsoft has moved Forefront Security for Office Communications Server (FSOCS) out of Beta. Released to manufacturing this week, the gold version of FSOCS is already available for download at no cost at all, provided that the bits are run in testing environments. Microsoft is in fact offering for download the 120-day trial software flavor of FSOCS RTM, allowing end users to test drive the security solution designed to integrate seamlessly with Office Communications Server 2007 and Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

“This release includes: 64bit support, support for OCS 2007 R2, support for OCS 2007 Enterprise Edition server roles, integration with OCS 2007 Access Edge role to protect corporate IM from external public IM threats and localization in 11 languages,” revealed Mike Chan, FSOCS product manager.

FSOCS RTM is up for grabs in the following languages: Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian and Spanish. The security solution is designed to bulletproof OCS 2007 and OCS 2007 R2 against IM-based malware. FSOCS integrates multiple scanning engines from members of the security industry set up to block malicious code attacks via the instant messaging products, as well as permit companies to filter messages with content deemed inappropriate.

“Like other Forefront server security products, FSOCS provides superior detection of the latest threats when compared to single engine solutions by using our multiple engine scanning technology,” Chan added. Microsoft is additionally offering a walkthrough of Forefront Security for Office Communications Server, set up to allow customers to get an idea of the IM and file transfer protection offered by the product, as well as the blocking capabilities related to out-of-policy content. The Redmond company is also delivering a datasheet of Forefront Security for Office Communications Server, presenting the solution to customers.
