American car-marker Ford is reportedly planning to abandon Microsoft’s platforms for the next-generation Sync infotainment service in the favor of BlackBerry QNX OS according to a new report.

Bloomberg writes via unofficial sources that one of the ways Ford is planning to improve the overall consumer appealing of its cars is by adding a new infotainment system that would rely on a completely different platform capable of providing speed and usability.

BlackBerry’s QNX OS is said to perfectly address these needs, while also being more affordable than Windows. At the same time, QNX is also used by several premium carmakers, including German manufacturers Audi and BMW.

Ford started its collaboration with Microsoft on the Sync infotainment system in 2007, but this is one of the main features across the entire vehicle lineup, with stats pointing to seven millions cars which are already equipped with it.
