Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally is said to be one of the leading candidates for the CEO role at Microsoft, with some people familiar with the matter saying that Steve Ballmer himself is backing the head of the American carmaker.

However, Mulally has no intention to leave Ford for the time being, he explained in a speech at the University of Georgia.

“They are a great company," he was quoted as saying by USA Today. "With respect to Microsoft, I love serving Ford, so I have nothing new to announce besides serving Ford. I never really thought I would leave Ford. When Bill Ford called, I knew I was having trouble, because I didn't say 'No' right away."

In addition to Mulally, Microsoft is also believed to be negotiating with several internal candidates and with Stephen Elop, the former Nokia boss who joined Redmond after a deal with the Finnish mobile phone producer.
