Star Wars geeks are devastated

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which I played for an hour not long ago, promises to be a great game. There's a Sith Lord, an apprentice, a whole lot of Force powers, some interesting enemies and the promise of a great physics engine which allows you to throw anything around while zapping enemies with Force lighting.

Rock, Paper Shotgun, one of the most interesting PC gaming blogs out there, seemed on the verge of something great yesterday when it reported that, during a lecture he gave at the NVISION 08 conference, Vik Sohal, who is the Chief Operation Officer of Pixelux Entertainment, the company that created the physics engine that powers The Force Unleashed, said that “It’s just been released last week on the internet, the Force Unleashed demo on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. We have a PC version as well”. Everyone just assumed, because of the wording, that he was referring to the game and not to the physics engine.

There was great joy amongst fans of the series because a PC version of The Force Unleashed would be truly a sight to behold, with the graphic power of the PC capable of rendering fights against Jedi and Sith in their full glory.

Well, the joy was short lived as LucasArts quickly reacted and sent a reply in which they said that “I can tell you definitively that there is no PC version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed planned. I would assume Vik was talking about a PC version of Digital Molecular Matter”.

So, the bottom line is that a PC version of The Force Unleashed looks more and more unlikely. LucasArts might be saving the announcement for a later date but, in the meantime, it seems that the Force is strong only with Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii users.
