Last week, various stories began circulating about the 'Desperate Housewives' star and the 'Crazy In Love' singer, as to their preparing to star in a movie together, as lesbian lovers. Rumor had it that the two women were to work together on an adaptation of Sarah Waters' novel 'Tipping the Velvet', directed by Sofia Coppola.
The rumor was substantiated with 'facts' and quotes from both stars. The 'NY Daily News' ran a story that claimed that Beyonce would take on the part of the male impersonator Kitty Butler, while Eva would play that of Nancy Astley. According to the newspaper, the two would engage in various explicit sexual acts, using sex toys and eventually ending up as prostitutes, just like in the novel, whose very title is in fact a Victorian slang for oral sex between women.
'Yes, it's true, we're talking about doing that... it's such a wonderful novel, a beautiful love story', Longoria was quoted as saying, while Beyonce reportedly manifested the same enthusiasm about doing the controversial movie: 'We've had "Brokeback Mountain" so the time is right for this divine novel to get the same treatment'.
Unfortunately, this was all false. Eva Longoria, upset by the media frenzy that was started with the rumor, talked to 'People' Magazine and set the record straight: there will be no movie in which she will play Beyonce's lesbian lover. Furthermore, such a project doesn't even exist or, if it does, she never heard of it.
'Stop the madness. Believe me, I would love to work with Beyonce one day. She's so talented. But this is definitely not something we are doing together. It's completely and absolutely not true. Beyonce and I just did the L'Oreal event a couple of days ago and we were like: "What is the deal?". What makes me crazy is that there are quotes out there, quotes from me saying it's true. But in fact it's not true. And there are quotes from Beyonce saying it's about time we had a female "Brokeback Mountain". And we're like: "We never said that"', the actress told the magazine, thus infirming all rumors about 'Tipping the Velvet'.
The singer's spokesperson also stated that all the rumors are false, adding that her lawyers are now looking into the matter to establish who is responsible for spreading such lies. 'This is not happening. We've never heard of this film', he told 'People'.
