Miles Jacobson, the director of Sports Interactive, says that the coming installments in the Football Manager series will be more focused on evolving core features of the game rather than revolutionizing any particular aspect of the sim.

He tells Rock, Paper, Shotgun that, “I tend to work two versions ahead. It used to be three but it’s two now because we’re managing to fit in a lot more each year, so there’s always an overall vision for the game.”

For this year’s instalment, the game received a major change in the tactics engine, which is now based on attitudes and instructions that can be individually enabled rather than based on sliders.

Jacobson says that the core idea will remain unchanged in the coming years while another area of Football Manager will be enhanced in interesting ways.

FM 2014 has also delivered changes to transfers, the press conference system and financial Fair Play regulations.
