Sony and Grip Games have presented a brand new title that’s coming both to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita at the end of Spring: Foosball 2012.

Among the biggest features of the PS Vita, besides its hardware power, is the cross-play support that allows certain games to appear both on the Vita and on the PS3 and exchange data between them.

We’ve already seen titles like Wipeout 2048 or MotorStorm RC use this feature and now a brand new game, in the form of Foosball 2012, has just been announced.

As you can tell by its name, it delivers a table football experience with both a single-player and a multiplayer mode, the latter of which supports both local and online matches.

“The World Tour single-player mode will let you travel across the globe and challenge AI opponents in nearly 30 locations,” Grip Games CEO Jakub Mikyska said. “More social players can look forward to a local multiplayer for up to four and online multiplayer, where you can match against the rest of the world and rank up to become the table football champion.”

Players can control the game by using either the regular controls on the PS Vita and PS3, or even the PlayStation Move on the home console.

“PlayStation Move is also supported on PS3,” Mikyska added.

“If you own this magic wand, you can control Foosball 2012 exactly like you would control a real table football, with 1:1 movement precision. If you don’t own PS Move, DualShock 3 is also supported and, if you have ever played a football game before, the controls will feel immediately familiar. The PS Vita controls are the same as on the PS3 controller, thanks to the dual analog sticks and touch controls are also supported, if that is your thing.”

Foosball 2012 will be released as a downloadable game for both the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita via the PlayStation Store and owners can play against anyone who buys it, no matter the platform, thanks to the cross-play support.

“The game supports cross-platform multiplayer – PS3 players can play against PS Vita players online, and vice versa. Secondly, if you own PS3 and PS Vita, the game automatically synchronizes your save data between both versions. You can start playing the game on your PS3 and then take it on the road with your PS Vita, and start exactly from where you left off.”

Foosball 2012 is scheduled to arrive at the end of spring. Until then, check out a video and a few screenshots below.
