If you ever wondered what humanity lacked in order to be able to transcend the pesky trappings of the mortal body, know that the ancient meditation techniques of the Far East have nothing on flying hamsters.

Scientists have reported that flying hamsters have a better than average chance to aid you in your metamorphosis into a being made entirely out of cosmic energy and, as such, developer Game Atelier has decided to do its part in the grand scheme of things.

Therefore, Game Atelier has now launched the crowdfunding campaign for Flying Hamster 2: Knight of the Golden Seed on Kickstarter, aiming to deliver a fully high-definition action role-playing game platformer starring the lovable Newton.

The aerial-capable hamster has now become a keen swordfighter and is well on its way to the ultimate metamorphosis, as he has now gained the ability to transform into other cute animals, each of them with its own unique capabilities.

The team's main inspiration lies with Wonder Boy / Monster World, the Zelda series, and Secret of Mana, along with their own vision of what a truly enthralling 2D platformer RPG should be.

The game will feature beautiful 2D hand-drawn environments, with smoothly animated characters and huge bosses, and will allow players to live the amazing adventures of Newton the Flying Hamster and experience an epic story full of surprises.

Newton can change into several different animals, a strong bear that can destroy almost anything, a nimble snake that can sneak into small gaps and climb walls, a frog that uses its tongue to grab to objects, and a cute pig that is pretty useless, but still cute nonetheless.

The actual gameplay will benefit from a ton of innovative ideas. For instance, items such as heavy boots will allow players to walk on the bottom of the ocean and ice swords will allow them to create platforms and climb up waterfalls.

The side-scrolling role-playing game will also benefit from a majestic orchestral score, as the team reports that Michiru Yamane, the famous composer who worked on Skullgirls and several Castlevania games, has also signed on for the project.

The original Flying Hamster started as a joke that captured the imagination of the team and was released in 2010, registering an aggregate of over 1.7 million downloads across the iOS, PSP, and Playstation Vita platforms.

Should the Kickstarter campaign prove successful, Flying Hamster 2 would arrive sometime during mid-2015 on PC.
