Rest and relaxation for Mac users

Have you ever tried to sit back and spend at least one minute watching your dog or cat sleeping? Their bodies are free of any tension, their minds have gone into "power saving mode" and their are resting as most humans did too, but centuries ago. In today's world, most people have lost the ability to sleep the right way and take full advantage of the time they should use to rebuild their physical and psychic energy.

Since we're living such times where the technology can be found anywhere, using it to help us relax is an excellent idea. Flying Chao is a company that believes the same, and so they came to release their HeadSpace Explorer line of products at this week's Macworld Expo, products built with the goal of helping you "reload your batteries".

The technology employed by this line of products uses special audio tones that allow your brain to enter specific mental states through a process known as "entrainment". The HeadSpace programs will take you anywhere you want by simply closing your eyes and putting on your headphones. Obviously, you will also need an iPod or a similar device to be connected to the headphones...

There are two HeadSpace Explorer versions available at this time - full and personal. The first one includes over 80 presets developed by Flying Chao, and additional presets can be downloaded. Your own entrainment sessions can be generated using the three built in editors available, and the libraries included with the program can be edited too.

The personal edition comes for 29.95$, compared to 79.95$ required for the full one, and includes 40 presets and 15 background audio textures. Finally, the Headspace Explorer MP3 packs, available for 12.95$ each, are collections of sounds from the full version rendered as 256Kbps MP3 files, each pack containing over six CDs worth of binaural entrainment sessions.

HeadSpace Explorer comes as a Universal Binary application for Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" or later, and 256MB of RAM are recommended to use it without problems. At last, don't overlook the warning coming from Flying Chao: "NOT FOR USE WHILE WALKING, DRIVING, OR OPERATING HEAVY MACHINERY. MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS!"
