Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), an agency of the United States Department of Defense orientated towards the development of futuristic gadgets, has announced that it is a few years away from launching its innovative prototype of car which flies and resists the attack of small fire weapons.

As soon as 2015, officials from DARPA might be able to start ground and air demonstrations, proving that film directors were actually visionaries when they started projecting flying, battle-ready vehicles in their movies.

Aerospace companies Lockheed Martin and AAI Corporation are expected to bring their contribution to this project, by coming up with ideas of “feasible design” meant to improve the military program.

Officials estimated that, by the end of 2012, the “flying Humvees” will be ready to abandon movie sets and move into reality. If the innovative ideas coming from the two aerospace companies are accepted, the prototypes' potential will be tested by 2015.

Authorities have great expectations in what the flying, fighting cars is concerned. The vehicle is meant to carry four soldiers and gear while flying up to 250 miles without becoming fuel-hungry.
