With just a few hours before Apple makes the final confirmation that an iPad 2 is being prepared for shipping, a Chinese source has posted a series of convincing iPad 2 photos, though it remains to be confirmed whether we’re dealing with mockups.

Posted at dgtle.com, the images in question show an Apple-branded tablet that has pretty much every characteristic described by rumors of the device:

· a slimmer design with sharper edges; · front and rear facing cameras; · elongated Sleep, and Volume buttons to fit the streamlined body; · a white plastic cover for where the 3G antenna is likely placed (the rumors never said anything about this part being white); · a SIM card or SD card slot right at the top right side of the device when viewed from the back; · a speaker grill; · the same resolution screen.

Comparison images are posted as well, which further adds credence to the veracity of DGtle’s report.

As noted above, the purported iPad 2 looks real enough to assume that, if we’re dealing with a mockup, it’s most likely a physical one.

In other words, everything is real - the images, and the objects depicted by them - only they may not be what they’re claimed to be.

iPad 2 parts have long been floating around China, the place where these things get assembled.

It shouldn’t be too difficult to put one together lacking the internal components and using a printed image of the iPad home screen underneath the touch panel.

However, hours from now, all will be revealed.

To be noted that Apple has not even confirmed the iPad 2, even though the company’s event invitations bear imagery that suggest an iPad announcement of some sort.

Also worth pointing out is that an alleged Apple employee recently had a chat with a well-known Apple-centric blog and told them that iPad 2 isn’t all that exciting of a tablet. It’s the iPad 3 announcement we should all be looking forward to, he reportedly said.
