After the B Sample of his Tour de France drug test proved to be positive, Floyd Landis began his legal and moral defense and re-stated his
innocence in front of the cycling world. More, the American made a request towards the US Anti-Doping Agency for dismissing all doping charges against him.
"The details of the submission support Landis's long-held innocence and argue that tests conducted on the athlete's A and B urine sample from stage 17 of the Tour de France do not meet the established World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) criteria for a positive doping offense", said a statement from Landis.
The former Phonak cyclist tested positive for a high level of testosterone after the 17th stage of Le Tour, the same in which he recovered more than 8 minutes towards his opponents, Carlos Sastre and Oscar Pereiro. After his B Sample failed to prove his innocence, his French title was awarded to runner-up Oscar Pereiro of Spain.
Still, Landis continues to deny all accusations against him and hired Howard Jacobs (lawyer) to prove his innocence. Jacobs successfully defended Marion Jones in her latest doping scandal, where Sample B was negative.
"I did not take testosterone or any other performance-enhancing substance and I'm very happy that the science is confirming my innocence. I look forward to restoring my good name so that I can focus on my hip replacement and begin training for next season", said Landis on Monday.
