A man has been swallowed by a large sinkhole in Brandon, near Tampa, Florida, and he is currently missing and presumed dead.

According to My Fox Tampa Bay, the hole-in-the-ground is 100-foot (30.5-m) wide and 50-foot deep (15-m), and the ground around it can collapse at any time.

While first responders cannot intervene at this point, police equipment in the form of a camera and a listening device has been sent in, and has been swallowed as well, Examiner reports.

"Right now, the potential for a collapse is very, very high," Jessica Damico says, representing the Hillsborough Fire and Rescue department.

36-year-old Jeff Bush fell as the sinkhole opened up underneath him, when he was lying in bed in his bedroom.

"We heard a loud crash. I ran in there and heard somebody screaming, my brother screaming, and I ran all in there. And all I see is this big hole. All I see is the top of his bed," describes Bush's brother, Jeremy.

Four other people, including a child were inside the house when it collapsed into the hole. Jeremy Bush attempted to get his brother out, but was too late.

"I didn't see anything else, so I jumped in the hole and tried getting him out. And I couldn't get him. I could hear him screaming for me, hollering for me," he recalls.

He was nearly swallowed himself, if it wasn't for Deputy Douglas Duvall of the local police, who swooped in to save him.

"I went into the bedroom and I saw the sinkhole in the entire bedroom. [...] I saw the family member inside the hole who was trying to get the victim out. I reached out and was able to grab his hand and pull him out of the hole," Duvall details.
