Users are complaining that their feeds are missing

Google Reader's closure was announced three months ago. Today, on schedule, Google pulled the plug on the beloved – but not hugely popular – RSS/Atom feed reader.

Long time users had to find new homes, and most have probably found an alternative they can live with by now.

Some may have been eager to switch to a more modern news-reader app, like Flipboard. In fact, like many other competitors, Flipboard was eagerly awaiting Google Reader refugees.

Shortly after the shutdown announcement, Flipboard underlined that it would be welcoming Reader users and their feeds.

Less than a couple of weeks ago, Flipboard once again encouraged Reader users to join and provided details on how to ensure a smooth migration.

"Flipboard will preserve your Google Reader feeds, folders and favorited items, so you can continue to enjoy all your subscriptions," Flipboard explained.

"That said, because Google Reader will no longer exist, unfortunately some of its functionality won’t be available moving forward – for example you won’t be able favorite any new items, create new folders, or add or remove feeds," it added.

"The good news is that you can still use Flipboard to enjoy RSS content. For example, if you want to add a new feed to your Flipboard experience, find it via the search bar and tap the subscribe icon to save it to your 'My Subscriptions' area," it said.

But it turns out, that's not exactly the case. In fact, many Flipboard users are complaining that their Reader feeds are gone and that they can't access their content. It's unclear whether everyone who migrated is experiencing issues, but the problem is affecting quite a lot of people.

In all fairness, the problem is likely temporary and the feeds should start working again soon enough. Still, this type of issue should probably have been foreseen. At least Flipboard is not the only one experiencing problems.
