Flipboard for Android is about to receive a major update, with a nice range of changes to the user interface, and some info on the matter is now available courtesy of the latest beta iteration of the app.

Currently available for download as version 2.3, the beta release shows an experimental app navigation interface on mobile phones, though chances are that the final version of Flipboard will also receive it, should the beta testing go according to plan.

The new Flipboard 2.3 beta for Android also comes to devices with profiles for its users, as well as with an updated cover for the Cover Stories feed, this thread on Reddit unveils.

Moreover, as Android Police notes, the updated application also brings changes to the left drawer, which now contains magazines that the user is following or making. Moreover, this will also allow people to view notifications and change settings.

The drawer now displays large image tiles, along with all of the user’s profile information. This is the place to go when it comes to accessing personalized content.

When going to the right drawer – either by swiping from the right or by hitting the search button – users will be able to enjoy features such as searching for sources, topics, and people to follow on Flipboard.

The updated Flipboard mobile client also comes to Android smartphones and tablets with a series of performance improvements for the interface when flipping into magazines. Various UI enhancements for seeking help within the app have also been included in the new release, it seems.

Moreover, the update will also provide owners of Android devices with a series of fixes for various issues that were found in the software before, including one that resulted in duplicate items to sometimes show up in feeds.

A problem with ad cropping on tablets has been addressed too in the new release, along with an issue with higher density layouts visible on phones.

The release notes for the new Flipboard 2.3 beta for Android also show that a minor issue related to storing feeds for offline viewing has been resolved, and that other bug fixes and improvements have also been included in the new app iteration.

Those who would like to take the updated beta app for a spin should head over to this Flipboard Beta Group for Android and to join it using their Google Play accounts. After that, they will be able to head to the app portal to enter the beta test and to download the software.
