Sharing photos, a piece of cake from now on

Yahoo's photo sharing service Flickr has just rolled out a brand new feature, which makes sharing photos, videos, groups and sets a piece of cake. In fact, the improvement is actually a button, namely the "Share this" button, which lets registered users share the content mentioned above with a single click.

Obviously, sharing photos isn't mandatory, all the users being allowed to choose from several options that would allow or block other people from sharing your images. A special menu included in the account settings enables logged on users to choose from multiple types of visitors you want to share your photos: only you, your friends and family, your family, your friends, your contacts or any Flickr member.

"When people are looking at your public items, they will see a button labeled 'Share this' below the Search box. The button allows people to quickly share your public stuff with friends via email. This setting lets you hide the 'Share this' button on your public photos or videos. Please note that if you choose to hide this button, people will still be able to share your public uploads by copying and pasting its URL," the new settings menu page reads.

As you probably remember, the photo sharing service has recently rolled out the Flickr Video sharing function which lets registered members create and share up to 90 seconds clips to other members of the community. However, the new function provided quite unexpected feedback as the majority of users considered the feature a useless addition. "Flickr is just a photo sharing service, users who look for videos should go to YouTube," most Flickr members said at that time. However, Flickr Video still exists and there's no sign that the parent company would think to remove the function.
