You really don't need to apply sun lotion if you have this

The idea of second skins has been showing up in fiction a lot, and now it's not fiction anymore, since Martin Kaltenbrunner and Takao Someya have invented something of the sort.

That video up there shows the flexible, skin-like material that the two have created.

It can detect pressure and shrug off essentially any abuse, or so the scientists claim.

It's just one nanometer thick, and yet doesn't suffer from wear or scratches when hit or scraped. It might even be more durable than our actual skin.

Really, if we didn't need to constantly shed the dead cells that make up the top layer of our skin, I'd advocate wearing this all the time.

After all, it could be really great to have a vital signs monitor on you all the time.

The e-skin can even integrate temperature sensors and the like. It could be the new, lifelike skin for prosthetics.

Read more about it on Nature or watch the video I have embedded above for more information.
