Whether you have just started to learn more about photography or you are an enthusiast photographer, you probably found out by now that the built-in pop-up flash on your DSLR camera is limited and creates harsh shadows and washed out colors that ruin your photos.

Preston Vance has decided to address this issue and created a reflector that attaches to your DSLR via the camera's hotshoe and diffuses the light from your flash.

To make his project a reality, Preston seeks support from the online community via the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform.

Flekt is designed to work with modular reflectors, and its designers plan to bring multiple different reflectors in the near future if the project gets the required funds. The current cFlekt model works with various camera models that have the flash unit in front of the hot-shoe.

cFlekt has a concave design and can use various removable reflectors (white, silver, gold) to add the desired lighting effect to your photos. The reflectors use two types of coatings designed to efficiently reflect and diffuse light from your flash.

Judging from the sample photos posted on Kickstarter, the cFlekt indeed improves pop-up flash lighting, but it still needs a little tweaking as it still creates hot spots even on subjects at a moderate distance.

Moreover, at $75 (€55) you can purchase a third-party flash unit that will offer a little more control over lighting, also providing a few manual options to set up your flashgun.

If you think that cFlekt will take your photography to the next level, you can head to its Kickstarter page where, for $65 (€48) or more, you will get your own cFlekt as soon as it's ready for shipping. Check out the video below for more information on Flekt.
