After a weak first quarter, the market segment rebounds

Regardless of whether or not Samsung is getting thrashed in the trial against Apple, the company has been showing just what it means to be one of the largest technology company groups in the world.

Samsung's latest achievement was to continue in its leading position on the flat-panel TV market.

Reaching 48.9 million units, the shipments of such products increased somewhat during the second quarter of the year (2012), after falling 30% in the first quarter (January-March, 47.2 million units).

Samsung sold 19.2% of them all, followed by LG (13.2%) and Sony (7.9%). A full analysis is found here.

“After an unusually weak start to 2012, global television shipments showed some signs of life in the second quarter,” said Tom Morrod, senior analyst and head of TV technology at IHS. “The return to growth in the second quarter follows normal seasonal patterns for television shipment growth, and likely signals further growth ahead in the third quarter.”

Knowing that LCD TVs will become cheaper over the next few months, we agree with that prediction.
