The Flash vs HTML5 debate is still raging despite Adobe, Google and others trying to reach a middle ground and saying that the two technologies are not really competing. Code Computerlove, a digital marketing and communications agency, has an interesting take on the whole thing and has created a Pong game that actually pits Flash against HTML5.

"The Flash Vs HTML5 debate has caused much discussion over the recent months and it certainly got us thinking here at Code," the company wrote in a blog post.

"We believe the two technologies are not in competition and each have their purpose, but thought it might be amusing to actually put them in direct competition," it said.

"On first view, you might think that this is just a simple re-make of the classic game 'pong,' you wouldn’t be wrong in coming to that conclusion. However, on closer inspection you’ll see that the left side of the game uses Flash, where the right hand side makes use of HTML5′s Canvas," it explained.

This is clearly a gimmick, but it's a very interesting one. Not only because you have Flash and HTML5 in the same page, but because the two implementations are actually working together, seamlessly and with hardly any noticeable lag.

While the idea itself is fun, it can actually prove a very practical way of determining Flash vs. HTML5 Canvas performance. Of course, a number of factors unrelated to the technologies themselves come into play, like how optimized each portion of code is.

Still, it's one simple and fun way of testing how your browser handles the two main platforms for rich content online. Note that there is a known performance issue on Mac Safari 5 and the developers recommend using Firefox 3.5+ for the test. [via TNW]
