Users of Android devices can now download Flash Player 10.2 from the Android Market, so as to take advantage of the latest enhancements the technology has to offer for them in terms of web browsing and multimedia playback. The new software arrives as a production GA (General Availability) release for Android 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread) devices, while being delivered only as a beta version for Android 3.x (Honeycomb) tablets.

In order to taste Adobe Flash Player 10.2, tablet PCs would require the installation of least Google’s 3.0.1 system update.

The new release is meant to offer users of Android 3.x-based tablet PCs the benefits of a full web browsing experience, with support for video, games and other interactive content.

According to Adobe, they have been working closely with Google for this release, so as to ensure a tight integration between Flash Player 10.2 and new OS flavor.

Some of the main improvements the new software brings would include:

Performance enhancements to take advantage of new hardware in both Android 3.x tablets, as well as existing hardware in many Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices

Tight integration with the new Android 3.x browser to treat Flash content as part of the web page instead of as a separate “overlay.” This results in improved scrolling of web pages and the ability to display pages in the way intended by the page designer, including new support for compositing HTML and other web content over Flash Player rendered content.

Automatic soft keyboard support to simplify text entry for rich mobile and multi-screen experiences

For the time being, however, the software still needs some improvements before being released in a final version of the Android Honeycomb OS. A production GA version of Flash Player 10.2 for Android 3.x should arrive in a few weeks, Adobe announced.

Through these enhancements, tablets running under the OS would support 720p high definition videos, a better “embedded” in-browser experience.

Those interested in the new Flash Player 10.2 for Android devices should head over to the Android Market.
