Flash Player 10.1 is one of the new features Android 2.2 Froyo comes to the market with. Having been announced since last year, the software solution is now available for download over at Adobe, but it seems that only handsets running under the Android 2.2 release would be able to enjoy it. Following the official announcement regarding the technology's release a couple of weeks ago, the beta 3 version of Flash Player 10.1 for Android has been made publicly available for download recently.

Flash Player 10.1 for Android 2.2 has been already included in the Android Market for supported devices, though only some Nexus One owners are currently able to download and install it. According to Adobe, the new beta version (the Android Public Beta comes with build number10.1.72.7) sports performance improvements for mobile devices, in addition to a wide range of fixes aimed at power consumption, video and audio rendering, usability, and more.

Among the fixes included in the release, we can count: - Cracking Audio during playback of AAC streams is resolved; - System.Capabilities.TouchScreenType now returns “finger” instead of “none” on Nexus One; - Tapping shift on the virtual keyboard stays active for two consecutive characters instead of one; - Multiple minor memory leaks fixed; - Sound device is closed aggressively when not in use to minimize power consumption; - When in full-screen mode with content where wmode is transparent, the background is not composited; - On2 and Sorenson video playback performance is extensively optimized; - Audio/Video Sync Problems with H.264 Video and AAC have been resolved.

The full list of fixed issues is available in the release notes of Flash Player 10.1 for Android beta. Unfortunately, the solution is said to be available only for devices running under Google's Android 2.2 operating system, which includes only the Nexus One for the time being. However, Froyo is set to land on more devices in the near future, which means that more users should soon be able to enjoy the capabilities of Flash Player 10.1.

“You will need to follow [the] link on your Android 2.2 device in order to download and install Flash Player 10.1 beta for Android. You will not be able to download Flash Player 10.1 for Android to your desktop or any other device,” Adobe notes.
