Mobile phone carrier Verizon wireless is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new software update for one of its most popular handsets, the DROID by Motorola, a solution that would enable the owners of this device enjoy Adobe's Flash Player 10.1 while on the go. The new software update is expected to arrive on the original DROID by Motorola as soon as today, and it should land as build FRG22D.

According to the latest news around the Internet, the update would be delivered on top of that FRG01B Android 2.2 Froyo solution DROID already received, while offering users the possibility to download the Flash Player 10.1 from the Android Market.

Verizon Wireless and Motorola launched the original DROID by Motorola in late 2009 with Android 2.0 on board, but updated the device to Android 2.1 earlier this year, and to the new Android 2.2 Froyo in August.

One of the nicest features of Froyo is the support for Adobe's Flash Player 10.1 Google packed inside it, but it seems that DROID did not receive this feature when Android 2.2 landed.

However, Big Red and Motorola seem set to get things straight as soon as possible, and the FRG22D build that should arrive on DROID starting today is expected to offer access to the Adobe technology.

The successor of DROID by Motorola, namely DROID 2, which was released on Verizon's airwaves a few weeks ago, comes with Flash Player 10.1 pre-loaded.

Other mobile phones which received the Android 2.2 software update already had access to the technology, but DROID was left behind a little.

In case the rumors pan out, starting today, the owners of this device should be able to head over to the Android Market to download Flash on their DROIDs, something that would enable them to view web pages inaccessible before.

When announcing the availability of Flash Player 10.1 for mobile devices, Adobe also announced a series of web sites that would be optimized for mobile access, and you can learn more on them here.
