Flash Based Mobile Security to the Max

- IronKey launched another heavily secured flash USB drive

By: Alexandru Pancescu, Hardware Editor

IronKey announced the launch of a data storage device which is compatible with new portable security enhanced flash memory USB, the IronKey: Enterprise Special Edition, that comes with advanced security features that make it the perfect choice for use in sensitive information areas like the government,
military and enterprise networks.

"We have been working closely with numerous enterprises and government agencies to develop an IronKey that retained the military-grade hardware encryption and nearly indestructible design of the original IronKey, but that can be easily deployed in extremely sensitive and restrictive network environments," said David Jevans, CEO of IronKey and Chairman of the Anti-Phishing Working Group. "And that is what the IronKey: Enterprise Special Edition is, a device designed to protect the most critical data assets of our government, military and enterprise customers."

This latest product from the IronKey company was designed to be the most secure USB flash drive available to the general consumer market as it uses integrated hardware encryption capabilities in order to secure and protect the files that are stored on it. In order to grant access to the stored information a password is required and it is also stored at a low hardware level ensuring that all tamper attempts will fail.

This data storage device is compatible with the high speed USB 2.0 standard while maintaining backward compatibility with the older USB 1.1 standard and it also works on a variety of hardware and software platforms like Windows, Mac and Linux. Among the enhanced security options of this device there is an integrated strong hardware AES cryptography and authentication feature and unlike most security programs this one requires no elevated user rights on Windows XP or Vista.

The IronKey: Enterprise Special Edition is available in 1, 2 and 4 gigabyte capacities and it is available for purchase from the manufacturing company's site or from the many retail dealers around the world. According to the news site everythingusb this version of the IronKey secure flash storage device is compliant with the waterproof and shock resistance military standards and it is now available with a price tag ranging from $79 to $149, according to its storage capabilities.
