One of the most controversial games ever to hit the App Store and then get pulled by its own developer, Flappy Bird is making a return. Dong Nguyen tells CNBC that it will be less addictive this time around and that it will have a multiplayer mode.

For those who don’t know the story of Flappy Bird, here’s the gist of it: the game essentially took off after a Swede on YouTube brought it to everyone’s attention, then everyone became obsessed with getting the highest score and some people messed up their lives a bit because of it. Seeing the damage his game was doing (as well as getting constant bickering on the street from people who knew he was the developer), he decided to yank it from the App Store.

Now the game is making a return!

CNBC’s Kelly Evans wrote on Twitter, “Flappy Bird's Dong Nguyen: Flappy Bird is coming back. Multiplayer. August.” Subsequently, the network relayed that Flappy 2 will be less addictive, which can also mean less enjoyable, therefore less profitable for Nguyen. However, after raking in a reported $50,000 (€36,600) a day with the original, he shouldn’t be pressed for cash.

Something tells me Flappy 2 won’t enjoy the success of the original, but I’m curious about that multiplayer bit.
