The new iPhone app borrows some features from the huge hit

Flappy Bird was a huge success because it was free and ad supported. The developer got so much grief from users that he decided to take it off AppStore. Nine months later, the same guy is back with a new game called Swing Copters.

The idea of the new game is very similar to the old one. So similar that you can easily think you are playing the same app, only this time you are not guiding a flying object from left to right, but another flying object from the bottom upwards. There are no controls but your finger, and all you have to do is tap the screen and avoid obstacles in your way up.

TouchArcade got a first look at this unreleased game. They say the player has an even more difficult mission this time as the flying dude with a propeller on his head is moving fast sideways. When you tap the screen, you change the flying direction. You need to fly through as many gates as possible. The game gets frustrating because it is hard to play and users will not be able to go up too far.

Swing Copters will be released on Thursday, August 21, and it will be a free, ad-supported download. If you want to get rid of the ads, you need to pay 99 cents as an in-app purchase.
